On several occasions, particularly on the periphery of the Habsburg Empire during the 17th and 18th centuries, dead people were suspected of being revenants or vampires, and consequently dug up and destroyed. Some contemporary authors named this phenomenon Magia Posthuma. This blog is dedicated to understanding what happened and why.

The crypt of Javier Arries
Nicolaus Equiamicus has kindly made me aware of this Spanish web site about vampires by Javier Arries, author of a 2007 book about vampires. It is, however, all in Spanish, but there are some nice and interesting illustrations worth taking a look at. The book even has its own Facebook group.

Greetings. I am Javier Arries. Please, excuse me my terrible English! I wanted to thank you, Niels, by this entry about my site and my work. I feel very honored to be mentioned in his excellent blog. I would like to congratulate you on your excellent, ejemplar work. Thanks also to Mr. Nicolaus Equiamicus.
Thanks and best regards.
Hi Javier,
Is there any chance your book will be translated into English?
Hi Amateur Vampirologist,
Sorry for responding late. I hope yes! but I was not exactly when. At the moment the only thing I know is that the publisher has already sold the rights of translation into German, Norwegian and Czech.
I would be very happy to see an English edition. Thank you for your interest!
